Even a good 30 years after Bill Withers withdrew from the music business into private life, it is almost impossible to avoid his musical work. His music is still present in all media and we encounter it on the radio, on television, in advertising, on soundtracks or as samples in hip-hop songs. Hits such as "Lovely Day," "Use Me," "Lean On Me" and "Ain't No Sunshine" (which has over 350 cover versions), testify to Withers' ability to shape unique and commercially successful soul classics from a variety of influences. The catchy combinations of R&B, folk, funk, soul and gospel accents, performed in a soft voice, captivated millions of listeners. They made the idiosyncratic soul singer and guitarist world-famous and also earned him three Grammy awards and a place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Mobile Fidelity's 1981 reissue of Columbia Records' Greatest Hits album features a basic compilation of his greatest hits. The outstanding sound quality of this pressing reveals Wither's wonderful and authentic music anew with each listen, touching all the senses.
The mastering for Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab was done by Krieg Wunderlich, the reissue is released as a 33 RPM 180g vinyl LP with consecutive serial number in limited edition.
