Cookin´ with the Miles Davis Quintet
Prestige Analogue Productions SACD CPRJ 7094 SA
legendary jazz album in outstanding sound quality
new, factory sealed
"Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet" is the first in a series of four albums, all recorded during the fabled extended studio session with Rudy Van Gelder on October 26, 1956. The concept of this session was not to record new tracks, but to document the extensive live catalog in studio quality, creating the atmosphere of a performance. What can be heard is the fantastic interplay of one of the best jazz quintets ever. Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones seem to exchange ideas telepathically; the combo forms a magical unit in which each member benefits from playing together. "Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet" features the first recording of the classic "My Funny Valentine." Uptempo fans will be thrilled with "Tune Up."
The hybrid mono SACD comes in a mini LP cover as part of a series of 50 reissues from the legendary Prestige label. Plans call for 25 mono and 25 stereo recordings each. The mastering was done by Kevin Gray in his Cohearent Audio Studios.
