Eric Dolphy At The Five Spot Vol.1
Prestige New Jazz Analogue Productions SACD CPRJ 8260 SA
legendary jazz album in outstanding sound quality
new, factory sealed
After leaving Charles Mingus and his ensemble to work with John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy formed a quintet with Booker Little. Over the years, this became justifiably legendary and a role model for progressive jazz musicians, even though trumpeter Little died only three months after the recording of "Eric Dolphy At The Five Spot." The post-bop scene admired Dolphy and Little for their dissonant and atonal sounds, which at the same time set the critics on edge. They were accompanied by pianist Mal Waldron, bassist Richard Davis and drummer Ed Blackwell.
Sound engineer Rudy van Gelder captured the interplay of an extraordinary combo with his portable recording equipment in Cooper Square on July 16, 1961.
